About Dr. Reid

ABOUT DR. REID

Employment and Education

Dr. Rory C. Reid began his education at University in Alberta Canada where he pursued Business Management and later transferred to Brigham Young University to complete his business degree in Business Information Systems. He then pursued his Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. After several years of developing a successful mental health clinic, he returned to BYU where he acquired his doctorate degree in clinical psychology with a dual emphasis in neuropsychology and marriage and family therapy. He completed his clinical internship in the Department of Family Medicine at UCLA and a post-doctoral fellowship in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences. He now holds a position as a Research Psychologist at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior in the UCLA Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences.   Rory Reid

Research and Clinical Interests

Dr. Reid’s primary areas of interest evolve around working with patients seeking help for impulse control disorders, including hypersexual behavior, pathological gambling, and substance-related disorders. He has published several articles on these topics in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Additionally, Dr. Reid is developing clinical support tools for assessment, diagnosis, and the treatment of various mental health issues. He is currently involved with the psychometric development of several scales to be used for clinical and research purposes. Additionally, he is the principal investigator in a current research study that is exploring the DSM-V criteria for Hypersexual Disorder among patients in Los Angeles, California, Utah, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

Associations

Dr. Reid has current affiliations or memberships with the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health, the International Neuropsychological Society, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and the Society for Psychotherapy Research. He also serves as a clinical consultant to several clinics in California, Pennsylvania, and Utah. In addition to these associations, Dr. Reid serves on two editoral boards for scientific journals: 1) Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy, 2) Journal of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity.

Clinical Experience

Over the years, Dr. Reid has conducted individual, group, and couples therapy with hundreds of patients seeking help for issues related to hypersexual behavior, pornography dependence, depression, anxiety, pathological gambling, substance-abuse, obsessive-compulsive disorders and adult ADHD. He has received specialized training in Emotion Focused Therapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, neuropsychological assessment, neurofeedback, and biofeedback.

Personal

Born in York England, Dr. Reid was raised predominantly in Canada and moved to the United States to pursue his post-secondary education. He enjoys rollerblading, hockey, waterskiing, snow-skiing, reading books, and of late, he is learning to play the bag-pipes!
